This bust type (B4) is not listed
in RIC for this issue, only laureate and cuirassed
(B5). It should come before Lyons 233. However, it
is apparently an error in RIC and 233 should
actually be listed with a B4 bust. Bastien lists
this type as #191 and not in RIC, but in his
footnotes states that the one example cited by RIC
in the Berlin collection is not in very good
condition, making a difficult interpretation. In
RIC, there is even a footnote that Voetter
recorded the same bust (B4) and legend in the
Gerin Catalogue, but Bruun did not find the coin
in the Vienna collection, so , he doubted Voetter.

This type was only struck at Trier
and is attributed to the period known as the
Revolt of Poemenius. This event would be
completely lost to history except for the brief
passage in Ammianus 15.6.4: “...Poemenius was
condemned as a malefactor, hailed to execution
and perished; he was the man (as we have told
above) who was chosen to protect his
fellow-citizens when Trier closed its gates
against Decentius Caesar”.
Sometime
in A.D. 353, the citizens of Trier revolted
against Decentius and declared their support of
Constantius II (SALVS AVG NOSTRI = Safety of our
Augustus). Unfortunately for Poemenius, he was
executed in A.D. 355, probably for his support
of Silvanus.
